Wiki Version:
At UC Berkeley, librarians address social components needed to make systems interoperable by leveraging on-campus and cross-institutional collaborations to create opportunities for students to learn basic data analysis skills with Python. The Library partners with undergraduate Data Science Discovery Consultants to provide introductory data analysis workshops. The student instructors work with librarians to gain experience constructing workshops and teaching technical skills. The resulting workshop series employs a peer-to-peer learning model which lowers the barrier to learning for novices and enhances motivation and understanding. At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to: - Identify strategies for building upon existing relationships among diverse data communities and strengthening connections - Design programs to meet people where they’re at and lower barriers to participation in data communities - Foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion in data science knowledge sharing
