Wiki Version:
Dear ____, My name is _____ and I am the Research Associate for the Collaborative Replications and Education Project (CREP; osf.io/wfc6u). I am contacting you because Study X of [insert citation] was selected as one of our CREP studies for this coming year. I am cc'ing two researchers, Jordan Wagge, the Executive Director of CREP and _____, who will serve as Executive Reviewer for this project. A little bit about CREP: Our mission is to provide training, support, and professional growth opportunities for students and instructors completing replication projects, while also addressing the need for direct and direct+ replications of highly-cited studies in the field. Through our coding process that evaluates the top-cited articles in the top journals in nine psychology subdisciplines, our student assistants, then executive reviewers, identified your research as being both the most interesting and most feasible for undergraduates to replicate as part of their research course. I share this selection process so that you know that we are trying to objectively select research that is central to our field. Over the last 10 years, over 500 students have started over 170 projects working with us in over 25 countries, and several papers have been published based on CREP replication findings. Our hope is to motivate students to master research while learning about your work. We would like to ask if you could share your original material with us for this replication? In addition, we also want to inquire whether there are any concerns that we should take into account when running these studies. Specifically, we would like to know if you have any suggestions beforehand for moderators that could potentially explain differences in effect size between your original study and replications. If so, we can suggest to students involved to include measures of these moderators following the replication study to be able to test for these possibilities. The more contextual information we can provide during the instructional and feedback rounds will improve our ability to properly replicate your work. Further, we hope to minimize the amount of contact you receive from students working with us. We also invite you to join this project and for you to use the CREP in your classroom as well; just let me know if that is something you might be interested in, and I can set up a meeting. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I can also be available by phone or for an online meeting. Sincerely, ____ & The CREP Team
