Description: Sufficient sleep of adequate quality is essential for mental and physical health. Sleep quality influences cognitive, affective and motivational variables and is in turn influenced by psychological factors: cognitive (e.g. rumination) and affective (e.g. anxiety) processes can have a (negative) impact on sleep quality. Sleep behaviour and sleep quality are also influenced by external factors (e.g. sleep environment). Sleep needs and sleep patterns also vary with the season, with individual differences in the intensity of these seasonal changes. There are also associations with internal circadian rhythms and individual chronotype. However, these variables are rarely analysed together in studies. The planned project will investigate the role of sleep quality, taking into account seasonality, chronotype and external sleep conditions, on motivational and affective variables in a healthy and a clinical sample.
