# Corpus of Misheard German Sung Speech - **Authors:** Jessica Nieder and Kevin Tang - **Date:** 12/04/2023 ## Files contained in this corpus - `german_misheard_sung_speech_corpus_v01_20230408.tsv` : A tab-delimited version of the corpus - `german_misheard_sung_speech_corpus_v01_20230408.RData` : A R data version of the corpus ## Description of variables Description of variables in `german_misheard_sung_speech_corpus_v01_20230408.tsv` and `german_misheard_sung_speech_corpus_v01_20230408.RData` (if the variable is referred to by a different name in published papers, the name in the paper is provided in parentheses): - **data_source**: source of the data (book or seminar) - **singer_name**: name of the singer - **song_title**: title of the song - **observer_gender_mfd**: gender of the listener reporting the misperception - **observer_age**: age of the listener reporting the misperception - **original_lyrics_orthography**: original verse in orthographic writing - **misheard_lyrics_orthography**: misheard verse in orthographic writing - **song_genre**: genre of the song - **intended_ortho_cleaned**: original verse in orthographic writing written in lower case letters without punctuation - **perceived_ortho_cleaned**: misheard verse in orthographic writing written in lower case letters without punctuation - **intended_ipa**: original verse written in IPA transcription. Elements of the syllable are seperated by a hyphen (-). Syllable boundaries in polysyllabic words are indicated by full stops (.). Each syllable is marked as strong (S) or weak (W). - **perceived_ipa**: misheard verse written in IPA transcription. Elements of the syllable are seperated by a hyphen (-). Syllable boundaries in polysyllabic words are indicated by full stops (.). Each syllable is marked as strong (S) or weak (W). - **boundary**: indicates if misheard lyrics contain boundary insertions or deletions - **syllable**: indicates if boundary deletion or insertion in misheard lyrics takes place before strong or weak syllables - **schwa_involved**: indicates if boundary insertions or deletions involve a schwa-sound - **wordhood**: indicates if misheard part involves existing words or a creation of nonce words - **dialect**: songs are sung in a dialect (yes vs. no) - **intended_word**: shortened version of original_lyrics_orthography containing only part of the verse that was misperceived - **perceived_word**: shortened version of misheard_lyrics_orthography containing only misheard part of the verse - **word_type**: indicates if boundary insertion or deletion leads to grammatical or lexical word (NA for nonces) - **grammatical_beforeafter**: indicates location of grammatical word before or after boundary insertion/deletion
