We addressed the extent to which the sentence processor anticipates upcoming disjunctive structure from the position of the correlative adverb "either", comparing cases where the position of the expected "or" (and therefore disjunct size) conformed to or deviated from what was initially encountered. Although language users are ultimately willing to adopt various scope configurations for "either" in production, results from self-paced reading and eye tracking suggest that readers predictively anticipate the size of the upcoming disjunct on the basis of the position of "either", facilitating integration of anticipated structure despite initially mismatching input.
