Wiki Version:
**Participants** We plan to have at least 80 participants from Utah Valley University to match the sample size of the original study. However, due to semester limitations, we need to have all data collected by November 28, 2017. If we do not have 80 participants by this date, we will stop data collection regardless of our sample size. We will have a minimum of 10 participants in our sample size. **Materials** The materials will consist of eight reading comprehension passages, and multiple choice questions pertaining to each passage. These passages will either be taken from the Nelson-Denny Reading Comprehension Test, Version E, or will be a version of the passage, modified by Feng et al, to be easier to read. The questions have been composed by Feng et al to test for comprehension and information retention. The passages will be grouped into two sets with four easy and four difficult passages for each group. The first group of passages will consist of the odd numbered difficult passages and even numbered modified, easier passages. The second group of passages will contain the even numbered difficult passages and odd numbered easier passages. **Methods** The passages will be read on a computer monitor, presented one sentence at a time and without the ability to reread sentence once the reader has advanced. The text will be interrupted periodically with a prompt that inquires whether the reader’s mind was wandering at that point in the exercise. The reader will have the opportunity to respond using “yes” or “no” buttons, at which time the reading exercise will continue. Each passage of text will be followed by multiple-choice comprehension questions, eight questions following the longer first passage and four questions following the subsequent shorter passages. These questions will be used to assess whether participants had any difficulty in remembering and comprehending what they read. Each participant will be asked to read eight passages and will have the opportunity of answering a total of thirty six questions, eight questions pertaining to the first passage, which is greater in length, and four per passage for the remaining seven passages.
