This component includes matlab code (the application, *fricativeMaker*) for resynthesizing s/sh continua from natural recordings. This software extracts the spectrum of the /s/ and /sh/ endpoints, and creates intermediate steps along a continua by shifting the spectrum in frequency space.
*FricativeMaker* was used to generate the fricative continua in:
McMurray, B., Farris-Trimble, A., Seedorff, M., & Rigler, H. (2016). The Effect of Residual Acoustic Hearing and Adaptation to Uncertainty on Speech Perception in Cochlear Implant Users: Evidence From Eye-Tracking. *Ear and hearing, 37(1),* e37-e51.
And in
Galle, M.E., Klein-Packard, J., Schreiber, K., and McMurray, B. (submitted). What are you waiting for? Real-time integration of cues for fricatives suggests encapsulated auditory memory.
Initial algorithm was developed by Bob McMurray, Marcus Galle and Ariane Rhone, and developed into a user friendly application by Marcus Galle.
Code is provided free of charge for academic purposes. Please cite Galle et al. (submitted) [above] if you use this in any paper. See the readme.txt file for more information.
