Wiki Version:
This OSF project contains some resources for the statistical analysis of language data. A **booklet** (https://osf.io/rdvt2) introduces and illustrates some fundamental concepts involved in empirical research. It was written for students doing quantitative research for a term paper or a final thesis in linguistics, and aims to explain the usage of simple descriptive and inferential tools for data analysis. **Slides from various talks** can also be found in this repository: - A talk for a TEFL audience, given in November 2022 at the University of Würzburg (https://osf.io/df2vp) - A talk for a corpus-linguistic audience, given in September 2018 at the University of Uppsala (https://osf.io/qrv5k) A number of spreadsheet **templates for Microsoft Excel** are also included in this repository. - The folder **Excel CI calculation** inlcudes templates from the calculation of confidence intervals for some basic statistical measures. Note that in many situations these simple methods are inappropriate. - The folder **Excel plot templates** offers templates to draw some graph types that are not readily available in Microsoft Excel (e.g. a dot plot, a dot diagram, or a box plot), as well as some others. These templates are designed so that you can copy-and-paste your data into the data cells. To get an impression of the kinds of charts that can be produced, have a look at my website (https://lsoenning.github.io/resources.html), which also provides links with instructions on how to use these templates (instructions can also be found in the booklet, https://osf.io/rdvt2). The folder **TEFL example R project** includes, for illustration, components of a minimal R project.
