We were unable to make people feel less secure in their finances. Participants who were made to feel poor reported feeling just as satisfied with their finances (M = 3.52, SD = 1.711) as those who were made to feel wealthy (M = 3.92, SD = 1.778; *F*(1, 185) = 2.486, *p* > .116).
As such we cannot further investigate whether making people feel poor alters hyperbolic discounting.
