*Abstract*
What do people in poverty need? This symposium explores the psychology
underlying the effectiveness of aid and cash transfers to help people
living in poverty around the world. Across novel samples, we describe how
cash transfers improve material outcomes, and we highlight how time-poverty
and other psychological needs are critical—yet overlooked—avenues to
improving psychological well-being.
