Wiki Version:
Frictometer This device can be used to measure static and dynamic friction with automatic repeatability, while choosing various parameters, including: Load (grams to 20-30 kg), resting time, temperature (-20 to ~ +100 C), sliding velocity (depending on DC-motor), and solid materials. The principle is to drive a DC-motor with an Arduino Uno, which turns a ballscrew to move a linearly movable sled, which contains one of the surfaces that are to be measured. Directly on top of the first surface is the countersurface, which is connected to a load cell connected to another Arduino Uno. The first surface is then pulled away under the countersurface with the load cell measuring the force required to do so. A custom made software application is used to drive the DC-motor and obtain the measurements with 100 measurements per second (Hz).
