The 2017 edition of EMOSE opened a [call][1] for interested participants. We were very pleased to receive 42 applications from twenty one countries.
Twelve applicants were offered to join the one-week hackathon in Porto and benefit from EuroMarine's funding support, including accommodation, all meals, and up to €400 in travel costs. The selected candidates are early career scientists, 8 men and 4 women, all from member institutes of EuroMarine, and from seven countries.
We decided to invite ten additional applicants to join the one-week hackathon in Porto, but at their own expenses. They are early career scientists, 7 men and 3 women, and from nine countries.
Finally, the twenty additional applicants are invited to join the discussions in a virtual research environment (VRE) and to attend morning webinars that will be broadcasted during the hackathon. They are students, early career scientists and senior scientists, 12 men and 8 women, and from twelve countries.
**Those who participate in person to the hackathon will constitute the group of "first" co-authors on the methodological article planned as the outcome of EMOSE 2017, whereas those who join discussion via the VRE will constitute the group of "second" co-authors. Organisers and invited experts will constitute the group of "third" co-authors.**
