Wiki Version:
In this experiment, participants are asked to imagine being stopped at a border control in a foreign country and asked about their reasons for visiting the country. They are asked to imagine stating their actual intention (truth condition) and to imagine concealing their actual intention (lie condition). In addition, they are asked to imagine the officer as being either highly suspicious or not at all suspicious. Participants relative preference for either high level/abstract (e.g., “enjoy the nightlife”) or low level/concrete (e.g., “visit bars and clubs”) statements is examined.
