Wiki Version:
THe purpose of this study is to test the effects of study 3 where we found possible trends for norm compliance under speeded and non-speeded judgements for low offers vs. the contorl group. The study will be a 2x2 design where participants are either told there is the norm for giving $.14 (a lower amount than tested in study 3) or no norms. Participants will then be randomly assigned to either the speeded or delayed groups. We will then (afterwards) test whether participants understood the rules of the game. The two comprehensions questions [with answers in brakckets] are: 1) What level of your contribution earns the highest payoff for you personally? Please enter numbers only [0] 2) What level of your contribution earns the highest payoff for the group as a whole? Please enter numbers only [50] These questions will eb presented on the same page in counterbalanced order In addition, we will take a greed scale and use iit in an ANCOVA for the results of the 2x2 analysis. We will only include participants if they understood the rules of the game by answering both comprehensions correctly. We will include participants whether they conformed to the time pressure demands.
