**Original citation.** Harmon-Jones, E., Harmon-Jones, C., Fearn, M., Sigelman, J.D., & Johnson, P. (2008). Left frontal cortical activation and spreading of alternatives: Test of the action-based model of dissonance. *Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 94*(1), 1-15. **Target of replication.** We seek to replicate the original authors' finding that the action-oriented mindset resulted in attitude changes from pre- to post-decision to both chosen and rejected alternatives, while the positive-nonaction and neutral mindsets only resulted in changes in the rejected alternative, F(2,54) = 3.19, p=0.0490. **A priori replication criteria.** A successful replication would find that the action-oriented mindset resulted in attitude changes from pre- to post-decision to both chosen and rejected alternatives, while the positive-nonaction and neutral mindsets only resulted in changes in the rejected alternative. The effect of interest is the interaction between Mindset, Decision time, and Alternatives on attitudes. To test this, we planned to run a 3 (Mindset: neutral, action-oriented, positive-nonaction-oriented) X 2 (predecision vs. postdecision) X 2 (chosen vs. rejected alternatives) mixed ANOVA with mindset as a between subjects factor and all others as within subjects factors.
