The following wiki describes the results of the data mining and analytics techniques exploited to gain insight into the ways University of Glasgow research output aligns to the UN SDG. The mapping to the SDG indicators was enabled by a variation of the Aurora-network developed bibliometric tool, that was specifically adapted for the purposes of identifying SDG relevant University of Glasgow output. The most important advantage of this method was that it allowed the rapid data mining and extraction of information from large databases. Moreover, the mapping exercise was used to identify areas of research strength, trends and changes in the topical coverage of the primary University output, as well as unrecognised collaboration opportunities on internal organizational level.
**Key messages:**
- Providing HEIs with a robust toolset for scrutinizing their research strengths and weaknesses, empowers them to make insightful strategic decisions.
- By aligning their research output to the globally recognised UN SDG framework, HEIs can demonstrate their commitment to relevant research avenues to external stakeholders and policy makers.
