These data and material sets accompany an experimental study investigating children ability to learn different types of information (words, morals, and informational details) from a shared reading interaction with a parent. We also investigated whether children's (n = 39) learning was affected by the type of information parents were encouraged to pay attention to, the types of behaviors parents engaged in during reading, or children's vocabulary size.
We have included data files including demographic information, parent responses to reading questionnaires, children's responses to learning tasks, and behavioral coding from the reading interaction. In addition, all stimuli (the storybook, the picture stimuli from the task, and the scripts for our manipulation of parents' attention) are available. The code for the learning tasks and the R script used for data analysis are also included.
