Wiki Version:
Women who base self-worth on appearance or others’ approval are at risk when viewing thin models. Religion might protect their body esteem. Our experiment manipulated the type of body-affirming statements and assessed body esteem before and after women viewed thin models. Reading religious body-affirmations increased feeling loved, which increased weight esteem.
