Wiki Version:
This session was a hackathon, titled “What do we mean by transparency?”. The goal was to improve on a literature review and draft an outline of a manuscript at the intersection of practical open science and the idea of transparency in the philosophy of science. In other words, this is like “participatory philosophy”, in which SIPS participants think about the question together. The most tangible outcome was a large table in which we broke down scientific practices, focusing on practices that could be labeled as “open science”, into their constituents according to a philosophical taxonomy of transparency. Of around 20 session participants, 15 people have signed on to keep working on the manuscript. If you’re interested in joining the project, please contact Paul at paul dot plonski at tufts dot edu. Next steps for the manuscript - Paul and Alex are going to work with the other participants to schedule writing sessions to move forward drafting the manuscript. We’re hoping to get a draft ready for submission to a journal by November 1st, 2022.
