## PAD-US-AR
Curated dataset based on the Protected Areas Databased-United States (PAD-US) from the USGS.
Project initiated by Matthew H. E. M. Browning (Clemson Univ.), Alessandro Rigolon (Univ. of Utah), and Scott Ogletree (Univ. of Edinburgh). Collaborators include Ruoyu Wang (Queen's University Belfast), Jochem Klompmaker (Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health), Scott Bailey (NatureQuant), Ryan Gagnon (Clemson Univ.), and Peter James (Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health).
Our goal is to provide the best freely available dataset of publicly accessible lands managed for outdoor recreation in the continental United States. Many fragmented datasets exist of public lands, from the local to federal level. The PAD-US is the provides a robust dataset of the protected lands under various levels of ownership and management in the US. Building off of the PAD-US V2.1, we filtered out lands not accessible or fit for public recreation in order to capture lands that people may have as a resource for recreation and activity. We hope this dataset is of value to researchers in outdoor recreation, public health, and environmental studies.
