Objectives
1. To assess the types of visualizations that are used to display data among original research articles published in the top 25% of peripheral vascular disease journals
2. To quantify the prevalence of suboptimal data visualization practices and data visualization errors among full length, original research articles published in the top 25% of peripheral vascular disease journals. These include:
a. The inappropriate use of bar graphs to present continuous data
b. Adding dot plots to bar graphs
c. The use of pie charts
d. Presenting three dimensional bar graphs or pie charts of two dimensional data
e. Failing to make all data points visible or show the density of data points in dot plots, correlation scatterplots or flow cytometry plots showing forward and side scatter
f. Using rainbow color maps, which are not color blind safe, on graphs or clinical images
g. Using color palettes that are not color blind safe in heat maps
h. Presenting box plots or violin plots of datasets with very small sample sizes
