Description: In the past decade, research on the dark triad of personality traits (Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy) has demonstrated a strong relationship to a number of socially aversive moral judgements such as sacrificial utilitarian decisions in moral dilemmas. This study widens the scope of this research project and investigates the association between dark triad personality traits and anti-natalist views, i.e. the views that procreation is morally wrong. The results indicate that dark triad personalities and belief in anti-natalism are strongly associated. Further, depression was found to be both independently associated with anti-natalism as well as functioning as a mediator in the relationships between Machiavellianism/psychopathy and anti-natalism. These findings add to the literature on dark triad personality traits and its relationship to moral judgements and intuitions, suggesting that personality and mood stand in a substantial relationship to the belief in anti-natalist views.
