Wiki Version:
*This is a collection of materials developed for an undergraduate (postsecondary education) live workshop demonstration, based off the primary source material **Record of passing vessels at the South Haven light-station** log. Additional material based off this lighthouse log are also housed on OSF:* - *[A 3rd grade (primary education) interdisciplinary lesson][1]* - *[An 8th grade (secondary education) science lesson][2]* --- Workshop materials in this collection include: - Postsecondary_DataLiteracy_Slides (in [.pdf][3] and [.pptx][4] formats). These include introductory materials and screenshots of the live demonstration steps - [Postsecondary_DataLiteracy_Worksheet.pdf][5], which provides students a way to record their observations during the workshop and test their knowledge afterwards - [Postsecondary_DataLiteracy_WorksheetSolutions.pdf][6], which provides students solutions to the worksheet - [Postsecondary_DataLiteracy_FeedbackForm.pdf][7], which can be administered to students post-workshop for assessment and further workshop improvement - [Postsecondary_DataLiteracy_InstructorOutline.pdf][8], which provides instructors and helpers an overview of how the workshop can be run. It also incorporates questions from the workshop and the slides between the outline, for easy reference - [Postsecondary_DataLiteracy_CommonIssues.pdf][9], which provides instructors and helpers an understanding of common questions and pitfalls learners may experience during the demonstration - [Data_LighthouseLog_1878-1882.xlsx][10], which includes the historical weather data used as part of the workshop. This spreadsheet uses the [condensed Zenodo dataset][11], which was created from the [original passing vessels journal by James Donahue][12]. - [Data_ContemporaryWeather_2018-2022.xlsx][13], which includes the contemporary weather data used as part of the workshop. This spreadsheet uses data obtained from the [website WeatherSpark][14]. For a demonstration on how this workshop can be run, please see the [recording from 2023-07-11 on the WMU Libraries YouTube][15].
