This dataset contains 24 diffusion-weighted image series stored in DICOM format, intended to be used for the validation of software handling of various metadata relating to orientation-dependent information in diffusion-weighted imaging. The data were acquired from a single individual in a single session. Each series was acquired using a unique combination of slice plane, order of slices within each volume, and phase encoding direction within that plane. Further, while the set of diffusion directions are reasonably well distributed over the sphere, the first three directions of diffusion sensitisation were exactly collinear with the scanner device coordinate system, allowing them to be used as fiducials for verification of appropriate handling of the diffusion gradient table.
