Wiki Version:
The present studies tested whether participants who read about a real transgression would prefer an apology that was low (vs. high) in self-compassion. The main study found that participants who read a high-self-compassion apology reported less positive perceptions of the target and perceived him as showing lower levels of remorse, but these differences were not statistically significant.
