Over time, biomedical research has become a critical issue for patients, scientific progress and public health stakeholders. However, patient participation in biomedical research protocols varies between establishments, departments, and even pathologies. Today, cancer patients are regularaly included in research protocols, but numbers can be poor in other domains.
Pneumology is a domain where biomedical research participation is well established, and there is a strong incentive from several private pharmaceutical laboratories, as well as public research institutions, to perform research. Given the increasing importance of accelerating inclusions in respiratory disease protocols, this study explores and describes patient-centered characteristics that may influence a patient's willingness to participate in biomedical research.
