Description: People can apply cognitive control at different time scales. However, behavioral measures of such temporal variations are lacking. Here we provide a new method to quantify the time scale of cognitive control and use it to differentiate between contexts with rare and frequent conflict. The method is easily applicable in a broad range of paradigms and opens new possibilities to characterize differences in control time scale within individuals, between individuals, and between groups.
