Hello and welcome! This is the Open Science Framework repository **Communication: An in-the-body experience** at [STEP 2021][1], with Jennifer Hinnell and Elena Nicoladis, May 10-14th, 2021. In this week-long course, we will explore the nature of gesture as part of language and human interaction. Topics will include: 1. What is gesture? 2. Why we study them? 3. How do we study them? 4. Challenges in studying gesture **AM I WELCOME?** This workshop requires no previous background. So whatever your background and level (student, researcher, or faculty), you are MOST DEFINITELY welcome. We aim to create an inclusive, engaging space this week. **BRING IT! (especially for groupwork)** The course will feature a high degree of group work. We know Zoom isn't ideal for this, but let's all **bring our 'A-game'** and make it work! It's much more fun for us if you're able to have cameras on most of the time, and especially for group work. We and your course-mates will appreciate your (visual/virtual) presence. **SCHEDULE** Course hours are Mon-Fri, May 10-14th, 9am-12pm: - 9-10:30am - Meet all together on Zoom - 10:30-10:45am - Body/coffee break/ad hoc hangout/discussion - 10:45 on (until 11:30/12ish) - Groupwork in breakout rooms A few notes: - You should have received the Zoom link via email. - You'll be assigned to a group on Day 1. - Sessions will NOT be recorded. - We've capped the class at 40 participants and the course is centered around group work. If you cannot make every session (9am-12pm, Monday to Friday), please consider giving your spot to someone on the waitlist. **HOW TO PREPARE** We'd really appreciate if you could fill out [this survey][2] to help us get to know you.
