Lab Log ------- **Video File/Exclusion Notes:** 63 participants tested between August 15, 2015 and September 15, 2015 were subject to an unexpected technical failure that was discovered after participant testing for this time period had concluded. The technical glitch caused all participant videos recorded within this month to truncate at around 3-4 minutes. The truncation happened (without notice) at the time that the videos were originally recorded, so that even backed up copies of the video files were not able to be played past 4 minutes. Upon further review, 6 of these participants still qualified for inclusion in data analyses, as we were able to verify that they completed at least 3 of the cartoons correctly before their video terminated. After consulting with the replication editors, we agreed to include data for the 57 other participants but exclude them from analyses, as we were unable to verify that these participants were holding the pen correctly in at least 3 of the 4 cartoon rating tasks. 4 other video files (all recorded on Nov 19, 2015) inexplicably played back at unusually high speed, as if on fast forward, when they were reviewed for exclusion coding. We were not able to identify the reason for this fast-forwarded playback; however, we were still able to use these videos to review and code the participants’ task performance, by repeatedly pausing and playing the video in order to manually slow down playback. Videos recorded on subsequent dates all played back normally. **Missing Data:** One participant (tested on December 4, 2015) skipped the rating task for the fourth cartoon. Another participant (tested on December 8, 2015) skipped the rating task for the first cartoon. Review of videos for these two participants indicated that both instances were a result of the participant accidentally turning multiple pages of the packet at once. Both participants were holding the pen correctly while rating the other 3 cartoons, and therefore were included in data analyses. **Data Coding:** In several instances, participants rated a cartoon or their overall task performance by circling two adjacent numbers, or by drawing a circle/mark in between two numbers. In these cases, we coded their response as the average of these two numbers (e.g., if a participant circled a 6 and a 7 together, we entered 6.5 as his/her response).
