Wiki Version:
This page contains the data and syntax necessary to replicate both main text figures. To replicate Figure 1 & Placebo Tests : 1. Save the dataset "vaers90-20" and supplementary dataset "vaersmasterdate" into the same folder. The former contains a count of all publicly available adverse event reports (grouped by year and ID), and the latter appends information about the date in which each one was filed. 2. Run the syntax file "VAERS Replication." This will call in both datasets in 1. Note that the file proceeds in Four Stages First, it creates the yearly aggregated figure in 1A. Then, it creates the linear/polynomial trendlines fit to the monthly data in Figure 1b It next runs all RD analyses specified in the Figure It concludes by assembling all of the above elements into one Figure. 4. The final lines of code in "VAERS Replication" provide the results of the placebo test referenced in text (PPV vaccine reports). To Replicate Figure 2: 1. Run the "Media Data Replication (LIWC)" script (.do file); calling "liwcdata" into memory. 2. Note that observations in "liwcdata" correspond to mean sentiment per week, and the total number of stories published in that week. 3. Script reproduces both the visualization and formal RD analyses presented in text. Note that the file "Meta-analysis VAERS.do" replicates the meta-analyses presented in text, based on the results presented in Figures 1-2.
