**Mindreading in HRI**
Mind reading plays an essential role in social interaction. However, in the case of social interaction with artificial agents, the question arises of whether humans would use a similar mind reading strategy to predict and explain the robot’s behavior, and whether this would facilitate human-robot interaction. Previous work suggests that depending on the task and the context, people might or might not attribute human-like mental states to these agents. Furthermore, mindreading mechanisms might be mediated by the expectations and presumptions that participants have regarding robots. Thus, it seems that prior attitudes towards robots might affect the likelihood of engaging such mechanisms as mind reading and social attunement with robots.
