# Project description Theory of Mind (ToM), also called mentalizing, is a widely studied but poorly defined construct (see e.g., Schaafsma et al., 2015). The specific definition of ToM, the proposed cognitive mechanisms that support it, and the method used to capture it vary widely throughout the research literature. In this project, we proposed to draw on a longstanding and influential theory in cognitive psychology - dual-process theory - to characterize Theory of Mind. The goal is to map each task's associated cognitive process into a common space whose dimensions are composed of dual-process characteristics, such as degree of cognitive load sensitivity, speed, and efficiency of processing. Within that space, we can then see how ToM constructs overlap, and how they dissociate.
