Wiki Version:
In general, majority of the existing masked priming studies were conducted in a highly controlled laboratory environment, which limits its application to languages spoken in countries where psycholinguistic laboratories exist. In the time of COVID-19, conducting such well-controlled lab-based masked priming experiments had become a challenge. This project is of prime importance because of two reasons: first, we seek to establish an alternative and a more accessible way of conducting masked priming studies, which is through ‘state of the art’ online experiment platforms Gorilla and crowdsourcing recruitment tools Prolific. Second, we will conduct the experiment in Tagalog (Austronesian, Philippines) as part of a much-needed push to diversify psycholinguistics research, and normalize the use of understudied languages in methods-focused research.
