Description: The aim is to develop an analysis of the concept of ineffective health maintenance behaviors. To achieve this, a broad survey of the scientific literature is necessary. Therefore, it was decided to operationalize the concept analysis through a scoping review. This scoping review protocol was reported in accordance with the recommendations highlighted by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P) and developed according to the methodological aspects of Chapter 11 of the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis. The review will be carried out in five stages: (1) formulation of the research question; (2) identification of relevant studies; (3) study selection; (4) data mapping and analysis; and (5) narrative synthesis of results. For the first stage, the research question will be constructed based on the PCC mnemonic strategy, where: P – population/problem (professional disciplines), C – concept (ineffective health maintenance behaviors) and C – context (scientific literature). Thus, the following question arises: How is the concept of ineffective health maintenance behaviors addressed in the scientific literature of professional disciplines? For the second stage, the literature search will occur in three distinct phases. The first phase of the search will be carried out in five databases, namely: Scopus (Elsevier), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE/PubMed), ScienceDirect (Elsevier), Web of Science and PsycINFO (ProQuest). The second phase of the search will be carried out on Google® Scholar. The third phase will involve manual searching in the reference lists of selected studies. Descriptors indexed in the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) were delimited: “Health Behavior”, “Health Risk Behaviors” and “Concept Formation”. Additionally, the alternative term “Conceptualization” was included in the search strategy. Thus, we have: “Health Behavior” OR “Health Risk Behaviors” AND “Concept Formation” OR Conceptualization. As inclusion criteria, studies that address the topic, available in full, with no language limit and no time frame, will be included. Letters to the editor, editorials, comments, summaries and protocols will be excluded from the sample. For the third stage, the selection of studies will take place using the Rayyan – Intelligent Systematic Review software (https://rayyan.ai/), with two researchers, independently and under blinding. A third researcher will be invited to resolve possible disagreements between researchers. For the fourth stage, a structured instrument will be developed in Microsoft Excel 2019® with variables related to the identification of the study, methodological aspects and main findings. For the fifth stage, the data will be presented in tables, charts and figures to better understand the results. It is expected that conducting the proposed review will provide mapping of information on the concept of ineffective health maintenance behaviors, as well as the elements that permeate the concept. The findings will be disseminated through publication in nursing journals, in order to contribute to the refinement of the concept in question and assist in its coherent use in nursing research, teaching and practice.
