**Data Coding** *IB-Tasks* Participants in the inattentional deafness task of Study 1 are considered to have missed the unexpected stimulus if they do not report noticing it or claim to have noticed something but cannot specify that it was an additional acoustical event or cannot define which additional acoustical event it was. Participants in the inattentional blindness task of Study 2 are considered to have missed the unexpected stimulus if they do not report noticing it or claim to have noticed something but cannot specify that it was an additional visual event or cannot define either the object's position or shape. As is standard practice in the inattentional blindness literature, data will be excluded whenever participants fail to notice the "unexpected" stimulus on the full-attention trial, as this suggests either that they were not following instructions or that they had sensory limits that prevented them from detecting the additional stimulus. Data will be excluded for subjects for whom we were unable to settle upon a threshold speed after 295 thresholding trials. Data will be excluded for participants who knew that the unexpected stimulus would appear (they anticipated the unexpected stimulus or knew that it was an inattentional blindness task / inattentional deafness task: i.e. responded "yes" to the first item on the questionnaire.) *Individual Difference Measures* There are many possible measures that can be derived from each of the individual difference tasks, so we have pre-specified the measure we will use in order to eliminate those investigator degrees of freedom: *Aospan*: Ospan-Score will be used *2-Back-Identity*: Pr will be used which is defined as Hits minus False Alarms *2-Back-Spatial*: Pr will be used which is defined as Hits minus False Alarms ---------- **Planned Analyses** Any analyses not specified here will be flagged as exploratory in any publication resulting from these studies. Rather than conducting null-hypothesis significance tests, we will follow recent recommendations (Cumming, 2012, 2014) and report effect-size estimates and their precision in the form of 95% confidence intervals. We will report a correlational matrix within each study (Study 1, Study 2) with the following variables: noticing on the no-attention trial, noticing on the divided-attention trial, 2-Back-Identity, 2-Back-Spatial, Aospan. For each study, we will perform a logistic regression to see how much of the variance in noticing the three working memory measures collectively acount for. Noticing in the no-attention trial will be the dependend variable. The three working memory measures will be the predictor variables: 2-Back-Identity, 2-Back-Spatial, and Aospan will be included into the analysis by the enter method. Additionally, to assess the influence of the participant's ability to solve the primary task on the results found, for each study we will calculate a hierachical logistic regression in which nociting in the no-attention trial will be the dependent variable. In a first block performance in the primary task will be added to the analysis by the enter method. In a second block the three working memory measures will be added by the enter method. The main focus lies on a potential change in R^2 from the first to the second block. If we do find a change in R^2 we may conduct follow-up analyses of the individual working memory measures (correlations between noticing in the no-attention trial and the three working memory measures with perfomance on the primary task partialed out). However, those partial-correlational analyses will be flagged as exploratory in any report of these results.
