Description: Considering the discursive and associative nature of cultural heritage data that has been pointed out by various scholars, the speakers will raise the questions of its relevant representation within the database on the example of work-in-progress “St. Retrospect” - a mapping project for representing culturally significant locations in Saint-Petersburg through their links with historic personalities associated with them. Speakers will also present the project itself as an attempt to answer these questions. Designed as an open source project, its mission is not only to raise awareness about culturally significant sites among the local community, but also to engage them into evaluation of historic locations and collection of relevant data. By the end of this hands-on workshop the participants will be better able to work with the MongoDB database both by the means of user-friendly admin interface and GraphQL API service.
