Wiki Version:
**Analytic Plan** Planned analyses are as follows: Hypotheses 1 and 2: The proportion of participants endorsing each source of information (received information from in the past/ideally would receive information from/would seek information from in the event of a specific question) will be obtained. In addition, an average ranking of each source (how often this source was sought out/how ideal that source is/how likely participants are to seek that source) will be obtained for each source of information. We will then compute confidence intervals for the proportion of participants endorsing each source of information, and explore if there are differences between these proportions using a Cochran’s Q test (omnibus test) and McNemar’s tests (for differences between specific sources). Hypotheses 3 and 4: This information will also be broken down by gender and age group (emerging adult, young adult, middle aged, older adult) using chi-square analyses to determine if a particular gender or age group is more or less likely to select a particular source of information. Hypothesis 5: Average ratings for the frequency of comparison between the participant and each source of information will be obtained, as well as mean similarity ratings and upward/downward comparison ratings. Then, comparisons will be made between the average similarity rating for friends, romantic partners, and their own past experiences and information from the media and from pornography using a series of paired t-tests. In the case that participants indicated that they have not received information from a source regarding sexual pleasure, and therefore did not view the question regarding comparing themselves to the information from pornography, their response regarding comparisons will be recoded from a missing value to a 1-Never. Hypothesis 6: Participants’ sexual satisfaction, commitment, and pleasure will be predicted by average upward/downward comparison ratings and the number of sources of comparison selected using multivariate regression. Hypothesis 7: A MANOVA will be run to determine whether pornography use as a source of information (use as a source/don’t use as a source) predicts sexual satisfaction, pleasure, and erotophobia-erotophilia. In addition, multivariate regression will be used to determine whether frequency of comparison to pornography predicts sexual satisfaction, pleasure, and erotophobia-erotophilia (in the case that participants indicated that they have not received information from pornography regarding sexual pleasure, and therefore did not view the question regarding comparing themselves to the information from pornography, their response regarding comparisons will be recoded from a missing value to a 1-Never). Hypothesis 8 and 9: A score for each source regarding how confident and satisfied participants are, on average, with the information received from that source will be obtained, and we will compute confidence intervals for these values. We will then run a series of paired t-tests comparing the top 5 sources that individuals are most confident in to the bottom 5 sources, and the top 5 sources that individuals are most satisfied with to the bottom 5 sources. Hypothesis 10: The number of sources of information participants use and the number of sources of comparison selected will be predicted by erotophobia-erotophilia using multivariate regression.
