Wiki Version:
Data and analysis scripts are organized in separate folders for experiment 1 and experiment 2. Experiment 1 features two samples: an online sample and an in-person (lab) sample. In the study phase, participants saw picture-word pairs and switched between categorizing the pictures and the words. Crucially, when solving the picture task, the word was the distractor, whereas when solving the word task, the picture was the distractor. In the present study, half of the trials involved emotional stimuli and the other half involved neutral stimuli. Trials were further divided such that sometimes the emotional stimuli were targets and sometimes they were distractors. A subsequent recognition test assessed memory for targets and distractors (test phase). Between the study phase and the test phase was a letter-memory task assessing working memory capacity. At the end participants filled out questionnaires assessing different personality traits: AATQ, BIS/BAS, self-control. In Exp. 2, there was a second working memory measure, the operation span task, administered after the test phase and before the questionnaires. Working memory capacity and personality traits were used for an explorative analysis of individual differences (folder "individual differences"). code book for files named "dfwide.csv": Letters in the column names are used for differentiating between the different phases/tasks: "b." = Study phase (e.g., "b.acc_repeat_picture_negative" = "mean accuracy on repeat-picture task-trials with negative stimuli) "c." = Test phase (e.g., "c.acc_picture_picture_repeat_negative" = mean accuracy for stimulus type pictures of picture task-repeat-negative trials) "d." = Letter Memory task (was administered between study phase and test phase: "d.propCorrect" and "d.mean_correctLetters") "e." = Questionnaires (in random order: BIS/BAS, Self-control, AATQ, some items are reverse scored and marked with an "r" at the end of the columnname, e.g., "e.BISBAS_5r") "f." = Operation span task (in Exp. 2 only) Other datafiles are self-explanatory, except maybe the column "running" which refers to the factor "stimulus type". Downloading the whole folder and keeping the subfolder structure allows you to run the R-script (which refers to the subfolders when loading the datasets).
