Wiki Version:
Due to a grouping of the subjects from a wide variety of populations and training backgrounds (sprinters, non-athletes and team sports athletes), we currently do not understand what is the most effective method of improving sprint performance over various distances (acceleration qualities vs max velocity qualities) in team sports athletes. This is despite the clear differences between the performance, competition and training demands of sprinters, non-athletes and team sport athletes (Rumpf, et al., 2016; Bolger, et al., 2015; Petrakos, et al., 2016; Rumpf, et al., 2012; Seitz, et al., 2014). For this reason, it would be of great benefit for strength and conditioning coaches to have a resource that centralises information regarding different speed training protocols and how they influence sprint performance over various distances in team sports athletes. Due to the majority of the literature being conducted in football code athletes and the inherent similarities between the demands of the sports this research will only explore the effects of the interventions on football code athletes.
