The database is a collection of forty photographs of indoor and outdoor natural scenes. Original images have been downloaded from the image bank Pixabay (https://pixabay.com/fr/) under Creative Commons Zero license.
All images were converted to 256 gray levels by averaging the red, green, and blue values of each pixel. All stimuli were normalized to obtain an average luminance of 0.5 and a RMS contrast of 0.2 for pixel intensity values between 0 and 1 (i.e. an average luminance of 128 and an RMS contrast of 51 on a scale of 256 gray levels).
For each scene, we created another version from which we remove the object in the central area of the image (~200 pixels wide) using Adobe Photoshop CS6. Thus, we obtained 80 images.
The database includes:
- 40 scenes with a central object including:
- 20 indoor scenes
- 20 outdoor scenes
- 40 scenes without a central object including:
- 20 indoor scenes
- 20 outdoor scenes
Scenes are large (1500 × 1500 pixels) and thus can be used to stimulate peripheral vision.
