The Role of Group Size in Reactions to Ostracism in a Social Media Context

In two experiments (N=536), we examined whether group size moderated the effects of ostracism on belonging and related needs in a social media context. Participants reported lower levels of belonging and meaningful existence when their online introductions were ignored by a larger group, in part because they were more embarrassed.
