Wiki Version:
Project began in 2011 as collaboration between two students at Saint Louis University, and then continued as long distance project between SLU and Murray State University. Initial study examined applicability of two theories in judgments of politicians following scandal. Ingroup Bias and Shifting Standards theory were examined. Study 1 (2012; no hard copy of IRB available due to electronic status at the time) indicated that ingroup bias predicted judgments better than shifting standards. The database and study materials can be found in the Study 1 files section of this OSF page. Study 2 (2014; Hypotheses contained in IRB document) was conducted in an attempt to replicate Study 1. Two collections were conducted via MTURK. Results indicated that Study 2 replicated Study 1: Ingroup bias is a better predictor of judgment following a political scandal. (3/20/2017) The database, IRB documents, and study materials can be found in the Study 2 files section of this OSF page. Manuscript has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Social Psychology (February, 2018) and is currently in preparation for publication.
