Wiki Version:
**Abstract** (submitted to 2022 SJDM annual conference) Personality information affects adults’ physical attractiveness and perceived social and intellectual competence. In three studies, we demonstrated that personality information about young children also influenced their perceived cuteness, warmth and competence (two dimensions of social cognition), and the female rater’s nurturing motivation toward them. Positive personality information boosted and negative personality information reduced the initial cuteness ratings for the children. Moreover, perceived cuteness mediated the link between personality information and nurturing motivation. These findings suggest that both infantile features (known as the baby schema effect) and non-physical personality traits of children are critical for activating and maintaining parenting motivation.
