WP Identity ----------- **Leader:** Goran Knežević **Contributors:** Danka Purić, Iris Žezelj, Ljiljana Lazarević, Zorana Zupan, Predrag Teovanović, Marko Živanović, Sanda Stanković, Marija Branković, Goran Opačić, Aleksandra Lazić, Petar Lukić, Milica Ninković, Marija Petrović **WP start:** 17/04/2023 **WP end:** 16/2/2024 Objectives ---------- 1. To investigate the frequency of TM/CAM (Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine) and NAR (Non-Adherence to Official Medical Advice) in the general population; 2. To examine distribution of irrational beliefs in the general population; 3. To investigate the relations between retrospectively assessed TM/CAM + NAR and variables of personality, thinking styles, cognitive reflection and a set of measures capturing the broadly defined domain of irrational beliefs; Description of work ------------------- 1. Production of the final battery of instruments based on inputs from WP2 (selection of TM/CAM + NAR measures that demonstrated satisfactory variability) and WP3 (selection of sufficiently variable TM/CAM + NAR measures, as well as measures of irrational beliefs that showed the strongest predictive capacity regarding TM/CAM + NAR and that had the best ratio between the length and the reliability). 2. Hypotheses pre-registration 3. Selecting an appropriate procedure for sampling and data collection. The sample planned is the probabilistic household sample representative for the general population in Serbia. Sample of N=1043 still enables detecting the correlation of .10 with the power of 0.90 (with alpha level set at 0.05). However, as the number of valid protocols cannot be predicted in advance it is reasonable to expect that a certain number of protocols would be discarded. Even with a considerable loss of protocols due to wrong endorsement of validity statements – around 20% – the sample size above 779 enables detecting the correlation of .10 with the power of 0.80 at the 0.05 alpha level. (will be outsourced, P1 and P2 will supervise and coordinate activities) 4. Online and door-to-door data collection by using fine-tuned assessment tools (will be outsourced, P1 will supervise and coordinate activities). Data preparation and data analyses: description of CAM + NAR and irrational beliefs distributions in population, examination of the latent structure of TM/CAM + NAR behaviors, examination of latent structure of irrational beliefs, and testing mediational role of broad set of irrational beliefs in the relations between distal predictors (personality, thinking styles, cognitive reflection) and health behaviors (TM/CAM + NAR).
