Description: Previous research suggested that insecure attachment styles were associated with a higher tendency to engage in intimate partner violence (IPV; Kanemasa et al., 2018, 2021). However, further research is needed to investigate the psychological process through which insecure attachment styles (i.e., attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance) orient people to commit violent acts toward their intimate partners. In the current study, we will focus on psychological IPV perpetration and examine how attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance will be related to this type of IPV in romantic relationships. We will consider the lacks of self-compassion and compassionate goals as parallel mediators between two attachment styles and psychological IPV perpetration in romantic relationships.
