Wiki Version:
This project contains supplementary files for the study: "[A Virtual Reality Experiment shows that Augmented Reality can improve Collaboration in Ship Navigation][1]". It was pregistered on OSF as "[Augmented Reality for ship bridges in Arctic Operations, a Virtual Reality experiment][2]". If you have any questions about the supporting files or the project, please contact me. Explanation of the files: • “Briefing.pdf” contains the guide for the briefing I gave participants at the start of the experiment and for the Cargo and Icebreaker scenarios specifically. • “Experiment structure for OSF 2021-11-15.pdf” gives some more insight into the structure of the experiment. It is a more extensive version of the figure above. • “Map of reflections on AR for navigation.jpg” is the main qualitative NVIVO output. Made in the NVIVO file I sent to you with post-processing in PowerPoint. • “Order of experiment sequences for counterbalancing and randomization.xlsx” shows you which exact experiment procedure each participant experienced of the four possible paths as depicted in “Experiment structure for OSF 2021-11-15.pdf”. This shows the exact Latin square counter balancing. It also has some notes about issues that happened during data collection (explaining the missing audio files due to WiFi issues). • The file “Risks and advantages interview.pdf” is the semi-structured interview guide for the debrief interview. • The file “S2 Data.xlsx” contains the data regarding the sample, including whether they had used VR before. • “S2 Data analysis.R” are the statistical analyses, mostly about SA communication frequency. • “SA communication coding strategy.pdf” is the coding strategy of the students that helped with coding based on the 3 SA levels. • “SAGAT selection of questions V5.pdf” contains the SAGAT questionnaires that the participants received (columns D, E, H and I in “Order of experiment sequences for counterbalancing and randomization.xlsx” • “Supplement of results in separate scenarios.pdf” contains result reporting of a parallel data analysis we did where we didn’t pool the data over the Cargo and Iceberg scenarios but analyzed them separately. • “Supplement of SAGAT Multiple Choice Questions Analysis.pdf” contains result reporting of a parallel data analysis we did where on the SAGAT multiple choice. This was not included in the main paper because we deemed the multiple-choice questions unfit (based on floor effects and participant feedback). • “SUS questionnaire.pdf” contains the SUS questionnaire that participants filled in in the second to last phase of the experiment.
