Additional material based off this lighthouse log are also housed on OSF:* - *[An 8th grade (secondary education) science lesson][1]* - *[An undergraduate (postsecondary education) live demonstration workshop][2]* --- Lesson materials in this collection include: - [Primary_DataLiteracy_Lesson.pdf][3], a lesson template providing teachers with guidance on how the lesson integrates into the curriculum and the state academic standards, background preparation required to run the lesson, as well as lesson purpose and structure. - Primary_DataLiteracy_Slides (in [.pdf][4] and [.pptx][5] formats). These slides are used in conjunction with the script within the lesson template and provide teachers with an example of how the lesson can be run and a template that they can modify to better serve their needs. - [Primary_DataLiteracy_Handout.pdf][6], provides students a closer look at the primary material ([the lighthouse log][7]) displayed on the slides, along with a typed up transcription for easier reading. - [Primary_DataLiteracy_Worksheet.pdf][8], which provides students a way to record their thoughts during the lesson. It also provides teachers a way to assess participation and if lesson objectives were met. This worksheet can be used as a template that teachers can modify to better serve their needs. This lesson is based on the journal *Record of passing vessels at the South Haven light-station*, which was kept from 1878 to 1882.
