Wiki Version:
**Sample recruitment and demographics:** Subjects will be recruited through classes at Lehigh Carbon Community College. Classes to be targeted will be psychology classes (primarily Introduction and several selected upper level courses). All of these classes are conducted in the same building where the testing will occur. During recruitment, we will clarify that we are interested in testing students aged 18 to 25. We will accept all students who volunteer within that age criteria, regardless of sex and ethnic background. Our plan is to test all volunteers, but to exclude non-white students from the subject pool. Students will sign up for a time slot at the psychology office (same building). We plan to test 150 subjects, but will ensure that we have a minimum of 100 (50 control and 50 experimental). Each subject will be tested individually. **Designation of Control or Experimental Group:** A random number table was generated on 6/27/2013 in which 1=experimental condition and 2=control condition. Assignment to either condition will be based on the random number table at the time of testing. Subjects will be assigned to one condition or the other as they come to the lab for testing. If the subject being tested must be excluded (non-white subjects), then the condition will remain constant for the next subject included in the study, thereby ensuring a balanced number of subjects in each condition. Exclusion of non-white subjects – Each subject will follow the experimental/control assignment, however, when a non-white subject is tested, the next subject will use the same condition assignment. In other words, non-white subjects will not impact the random assignment to conditions based on the generated table. Subjects will be tested one at a time. **Recording of Data:** All data will be recorded on a data card after the subjects view the images of the faces. After data is collected the condition will also be recorded on demographic side of the data card by the experimenter. Demographic data to be collected includes sex, birthdate and ethnic category (Choices for ethnic category are Asian, Black or African American, Hispanic/Latino, White) A procedural protocol is attached.
