I show that a syntactic approach to negative concord can be given in terms
of downward Agree. This is in contrast to much recent literature that has
argued that a syntactic approach to NC requires Upward Agree (whether this
is taken as a feature or a bug!). Adopting an interaction/satisfaction
approach, the core idea is that NC in a language like Italian results from
an insatiable probe on Neg that interacts with n-words. N-word morphology
is a result of Agree with such a probe. I show that this system allows for
a natural account of various NC systems, including those of French and
Greek.
