Wiki Version:
The congruency sequence effect is a robust phenomenon that is hypothesised to be the product of cognitive control adaptation, which according to the most prominent theory in the field, increases with the amount of perceived conflict. Zhang et al. (2021) has found that parametrically increasing the amount of distractors in flanker stimuli modifies the amount of control. In this work we replicated their design in a high-sample multisite online study, confirming the original hypothesis that increased level of conflict leads to increased adaptation of control. Zhang, M., Li, Q., Yin, S., & Chen, A. (2021). Changes in the level of conflict trigger conflict adaptation. Acta Psychologica Sinica, 53(2), 128.
